The Grand Knavecon Raffle

For all of you planning to attend or just support Knavecon I give you the Grand Raffle. for the princely sum of €1 your name will be entered into our draw for a selection of Board Games which will be raffled on the day. (early supporters will get two entries for their euro up until the end of March)

The prize fund will be added to as time progresses and depending on support more games will be added to the list and this post updated. I’m hoping for some big ticket stuff

So to kick things off Knavecon are Putting up a new, unopened copy of Puerto Rico for the Raffle.

FAQ

How do we take part? : For every € your name will be entered into our raffle. (you get two tickets until end of March). local pay me in person. Whiskey, Rifles or Glass beads will not suffice.

Can I buy Multiple tickets? : Absolutely, Tickets go on sale now at €1 each or 8 for €5. Until the end of March to start this off we will give you double tickets.

When will the Raffle take place? : At Knavecon, the Raffle will be drawn

Is this at all like a father Ted Raffle? : No, this is honest and fair, no staff members or their relatives will be allowed participate. Tickets will be drawn on the day

What can I win? : The prize fund will be added to as tickets are sold, since I expect a number of companies to contribute to it, this will be a very good value raffle.

If I can’t make it to Knavecon but want to take part? : Prizes can be posted out to the winners via Parcel Motel or an Post. P+P costs must be covered by the winner if they cannot collect or have collected on the day.

How will Prizes be allocated ? : Depending on how many games are in the draw, each winner will receive ONE boardgame as a prize for each draw, e.g. if there are five games in the draw, five winners will be drawn.

Can I win more than once ? : Absolutely, if you’re name is drawn more than once you will receive a prize each time.

What if no-one takes part? : That’s OK, Knavecon will honour it’s undertaking and supply at a minimum a copy of Puerto Rico

Starting out – Learning how to game at Knavecon

A buddy of mine had a fantastic suggestion for Knavecon. A Beginners group. So we’re going to do it. If you’ve never gamed before and are curious about the whole thing, we’ll have a table dedicated to new players and we’ll take you through a few games every new gamer should try.

One of the biggest hurdles for new gamers is learning rules (and for, well me too). On the day we’ll have someone to mentor you on a few games, so you get fast tracked on the rules. Sort of like a boot camp but with marginally less shouting and demeaning.

BTW in case you’re wondering the red path went to Knavecon. yes it did. the internet is wrong.

NOW all we need is a name for the new gamer table…

New Expansion for Star Realms !

The first expansion for the electronic version of Star Realms has been released.

“To get started, download the game here if you have not already. Then, after downloading and installing the game, go to Campaigns from the Main Menu, and click Campaign 3. You will see the Buy Gambit Expansion screen — click on “registration code” in the bottom left. Then the app will ask you to input the code that was emailed to you.

If you want to unlock the full game on other devices you own, you will need to log in to your user account. To unlock a device, go to Play Online, log in, and go to your user profile in the bottom left. From there, hit Restore Purchases and everything should unlock.

See you in the Star Realms Galaxy!”

If you’re not familiar with this game, now’s a good time to start. It’s available as a stand alone card game and cross platform for Android, iOS, Mac and PC.

Raging Royds – Asteroyds

I loved asteroids when it came out in the arcades (I’m old, get over it). I played it. Read about it in magazines (magazines are sort of like hard copies of websites from the late 20th century).

Asteroyds is a fairly simple program it up racer. On a very short timer. Program your ship’s next six moves forward,turn left, turn right, flip over.

The asteroids move. You all move and someone hits an asteroid. Much hilarity ensues. No one loses and eye. People laugh at you.

Try and get through the four moving flag gates and home before anyone else does. Simple stuff.

Each ship has a unique and uninspired special move you can do once per game and if you’re feeling saucy you can take an extra move in your turn but you don’t get the benefit of the damage reducing shields you normally would.

The game is all about making mistakes or more accurately not making mistake but having your opponents do so.

It’s grand. It’s not bad, it’s not wonderful, it’s in the green zone. It was very cheap (€10) when I got it and it was well worth the cash for what you get.

You can play out a few scenarios in the game. Racing, target shooting, something else. It’s good enough. The problem is its a bit robo rally but it’s not as good as that. It’s a bit leader 1 but it’s not as good as it.

If you get the game cheaply like I did it’s certainly worth getting but at full price id say look elsewhere for racing fun

I never said WHICH Christmas it would be over by : Diplomacy 2014/15 Spring 1904

Well it didn’t end by Christmas, I didn’t think it would but you never know. A most unusual game.

If you’ve ever played Diplomacy you’ll notice something odd…. Italy isn’t dead which is the normal course of events. This game is anything but normal.

Germany is still hanging in there with it’s nothing to see here stance.

Seemingly, Napoleon wasn’t a small man, it was all British propaganda, France on the other hand is shrinking rapidly and may disappear with an audible POP.

Russia seems to be holding it’s own (never underestimate Russia). Austria and Turkey have taken the shirts off, folded them neatly and are now circling each other fists a whirl

England is very much ruling the waves and fortress Britain looks impregnable.

I’ve never seen a game go like this, I’ve seen some odd stuff, but nothing like this, bravo! more of this I say!

Great last Thur of 2014

Thanks to the crowd who made it out last Thursday for the last Thursday nights gaming of 2014. Thanks for all the food that was brought. A great years gaming, some damn fine games played, rules learnt and fun had. More of that next year I reckon
